She’s really personable, immediately put me at ease and spent a lot of effort getting to understand my lifestyle and what I like in terms of style. Then we did my colours (season) and body shape, and the implications of shape got what looks good and not so good on me. That was a revelation! It’s already changed the colours and clothes I buy, and how I’ve started to see and wear clothes. Elise helped me to go through my entire wardrobe, including coats, hats and shoes and we had a proper clear out, which was long overdue and it means that now I only have things in my wardrobe that I like and that suit me. In doing that she was very aware and responsive to things that I wanted to keep and what I was happy to let go. We looked at how I can put outfits together more easily (initially from my existing wardrobe) and style them to have more impact. Elise then did a list of gaps in my wardrobe - things I needed. This week we went shopping for 3 hours - brilliant. Elise had done loads of research working off the list of things she thought I needed. Amazing. Imagine going shopping with a best mate who knows exactly what you like and need for your wardrobe, has done all the prep, gives you an honest opinion and is entirely focussed on you! I’m not a very good shopper - I either shop in sales making random purchases or get overwhelmed and don’t buy anything. I came home from our trip with a great selection of clothes that I really like and that I can see will help me bring outfits together that look great and more interesting. I bought a few things that I would never try on normally but which I like and can see look great - and that goes back in part to the body shape discussion in session 1. (Pic: today’s outfit in my guitar nest) For a while I wanted to be more me, look more like myself but the guitar industry prevented that from happening for a while (10 years!), until I earned enough credibility thanks to my skills only not my looks, meaning I looked like a binbag most the time for a good decade! A few years ago finally feeling comfortable in my life and work, finally being taken seriously in everything I did and do, I started to think about the possibility of being able to look more like me, to be more feminine in my day to day life (80% of my life being work!) The issue was that my attempts to do so were unsuccessful, partly because I struggled really hard to find colours that suited me (funny for someone who studied in art, is a luthier and a lighting engineer, in wich colors and taste have huge importance), partly because none of the shops I ever been to seemed to curate for people who like what I like, partly because I wanted clothes that were pretty, comfortable (due to a disability) AND practical (wich seemed impossible…a holy grail quest kind of scenario!!!) and partly because my wardrobe was chaos and didn’t know anymore where to begin when I lived a life not taking care of my looks (or not being able to) for so long..! I decided that I had enough of this wardrobe limbo and started to look for stylists in my area (Bristol), after several emails to several people, someone recommended me a bunch of names, Elise was one of them.
